1st Athens Shopify Meetup: Setting the Ground Rules
The 1st Athens Shopify Meetup happened on Friday, February 7, bringing together people who don’t just “run stores,” but actually want to understand how Shopify works in the real world — especially in the Greek market.
Organised by Gerasimos Tsiamalos, the meetup marked a small but important milestone: a local space for honest conversations around Shopify, beyond sales decks and surface-level success stories.
Our very own Panos Voulgaris led the discussion, sharing hands-on experience from designing, building, managing, and supporting Shopify stores in Greece — and doing the same from Greece for brands operating internationally. No theory. Just what actually happens once a store goes live.
The conversation covered expectations vs. reality, where Shopify shines, where merchants struggle, and what teams consistently underestimate. Mistakes were discussed openly. So were wins. The focus wasn’t on showcasing perfect case studies, but on understanding the ecosystem as it really is — opportunities, limitations, and everything in between.
What stood out was the appetite in the room: people eager to learn, challenge assumptions, and think long-term about eCommerce instead of chasing shortcuts.
